Annotating the pea aphid genome metabolic genes.

The recent sequencing of the genome of the pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum), together with the already available sequence of its primary symbiont (Buchnera aphidicola) genome has prompted us to develop AcypiCyc, a BioCyc database dedicated to the pea aphid. We used the Pathway Tools Software (SRI International) to build the database, but we also developed a dedicated Cyc Annotation Database System (CycADS) to collect and compile gene/proteins annotations from different sources.

A database for multiple applications.

We hope that the AcypiCyc database will be useful to the International Aphid Genomics Consortium as a tool for the study of the pea aphid metabolism. AcypiCyc offers a framework for the integrated analysis of metabolic networks and the possibility to browse the pea aphid metabolism. Thanks to its open platform formats (Webservices, BioPAX, SBML), the data can be integrated into other tools to perform both metabolic network and complex genomics data analyses.
